Tomorrow at Church Simplified: KATE TORRALBA

What once was hurt
What once was friction
What left a mark
No longer stings...
Because Grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

- U2, from the song "Grace"

We can bust out the espresso machine and sit for days around a table, pick at it, scrutinize it, duke it out with each other... And we would have barely scratched the surface of the concept behind the most wonderful, scandalous word known as grace.

This week we wrap up the series, but know that we are far from having exhausted it. I figured we can stop and digest for a while and pick it up again at some point.

Our special guest artist is
popular fashion designer
and budding musician,
KATE TORRALBA.

This Wednesday on Church Simplified: Week 3 of Can You Hear Me Now?

You beg. You whimper. You load God down with empty praise.
You tell him sins he already knows full well.
You seek to change his changeless will...
And sometimes, by God's grace, a prayer is heard.

- Frederick Buechner

This Wednesday on Church Simplified: Week 2 of Can You Hear Me Now?

The prayer preceding for all prayers is:

"May it be the real I who speaks
and may it be the real You, that I speak to"
- C.S. Lewis

...Notice that our topic says “plowing through the mysteries”, and not unraveling them. Just thought I'd point that out :)

This week's special guest artist is
IMAGO. Spread the word!

This Wednesday at Top Shelf: Can You Hear Me Now?

I've been thinking about it a lot lately: Why is it that God seems to be able to heal every headache, however, when it comes to more medically diagnosed diseases--like, say, cancer or AIDS--his batting average seems to be a little off...

What gives? Is God merely the headache specialist? How does prayer really work? What can we ultimately count on God for?

In the next couple of weeks we embark on the journey to discover prayer, not from the experts' point of view, but from one who genuinely seeks answers.

Join us if you're free.

...Now, we can't guarantee answers, but Krispy Kreme will be there to ease our pain :)

Location:
Top Shelf, 5th floor Fully Booked

Tomorrow at Church Simplified: ECHO, week 3

Great speeches that inspire us toward greatness are sometimes nothing more than exactly that... A great speech. I, however, need to go back to my everyday real world with bills to pay, schedules to keep, errands to run.

So good job with the inspiring talks, but that's just not how it works in the real world.

Tomorrow at Church we continue with ECHO: Living the Original Life... even in the real world.

And, if you're still unsatisfied you can atleast drown your dissatisfaction with KRISPY KREME! :)

Tomorrow Night at Fully Booked: ECHO, Week 1

Last week was the intro. Tomorrow we get down to business.

There is something about the words original and greatness that tend to stir something within us.

On one hand those words seem to summon us to live lives bigger than ourselves. And on the other, they disturb us from the mediocre, copycat life we tend to settle for.

Therein lies the tension--the crisis if you will.

Join us this we week for the ECHO Series.

Bring your friends!

This Wednesday at Church Simplified: ECHO

You know how when you were a kid, you always imagined that life was going to turn out unique for you... That there were things about life that was going to separate you from the pack.

Yet as life kicked in we find ourselves herded by culture to look the same, drive the same, eat the same--and sometimes you can't help but ask, what happened?

We think God through the Scriptures has been trying to get into the conversation of living a unique life.

Come and figure it out with us in our new series, ECHO.
